(Please read before using this utility)
1. This utility is designed to assist drivers and 1st responders who use Eircodes and wish to be able to use them on Garmin SatNav and In-Dash products.
2. It will convert the Eircode to a Loc8 Code which is supported as standard on those products. Garmin products that support Loc8 Code are listed here: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/87490#devices
3. It converts Eircodes that are currently in the Google Maps database. However, Google Maps do not update their Eircode database frequently so Eircodes for new properties may not be supported.
4. If an Eircode is NOT supported then use our FREE point8 app to do the conversion by following the steps shown in the videos on this website: http://www.loc8codeapps.com/smart-apps.html
5. This utility requires an internet connection so it should be used before going to an area where coverage may be difficult.
6. If the utility is not filling your screen correctly then on Android try tapping on the display options (3 vertical dots in a circle on your screen bottom left) and adjust the “Webpage Text Size” to suit.
7. Users should be aware that Eircodes may point to the wrong location or to buildings which are accessed by complicated entrances or entrances that are a long way away from the building. For this reason it is recommended to view a resulting Loc8 Code via the point8 app on your mobile device first to confirm it is correct, to adjust it by tapping the map if incorrect or to generate a Loc8 Code for the entrance location by tapping the map so that you are not misguided.
8. If you are using an Android device and you find that when you click on the “Navigation” option its goes straight to Google Maps without displaying a choice of other Navigation applications installed on your device (eg point8, Navmii, Navigon, TomTom Go, Waze etc) then Google Maps has made itself the default. To undo do as follows:
On your device Go To:
* settings/applications/application manager
* scroll down to Maps (Gmaps) tap into Maps
* then tap "Set As Default"
* tap "Go to supported URL's"
* select "always ask"
* then the Navigation option on the GO page will give you the option of using suitable installed Nav apps rather than going straight to Google Maps
* when the options are displayed make sure you always select “JUST ONCE”
* if necessary also clear your memory cache and restart your device
* To see the Navigation options on your iphone choose to share from the map display and add point8/other nav apps
9. The utility also converts the Eircode to Lat/Long (WGS84) and ITM Grid Coordinates which users can easily copy into or use in 3rd party applications or SatNavs.
10. “Copy Loc8 Code” – copies the code in the format W8L-82-4YK to paste into the search bar on point8 or into 3rd party applications
11. “Copy Loc8 Code as URL” – copies the code in format www.loc8.ie/W8L-82-4YK for use in any web browser
12. “Copy Code & URL Link” – copies in both formats above to support pasting into email and messaging/social media applications for easy use by those who receive or see them.
13. Loc8 Code Ltd takes no responsibility for the accuracy of Eircodes used in this utility or for any map or navigation device or application in which its location information is subsequently used.
